Kazakhstan’s President has set the task to develop natural disaster insurance schemes, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports, citing President Nazarbayev as saying at a sitting in his Akorda Residence held to tally 2012 results. “All developed countries enjoy well-thought-through natural disaster insurance schemes. The USA and other developed countries face lots of disasters; however, the tragedies do not call for such sizeable amounts of public money as in our country. Because they have effective insurance schemes in place. Why can’t we borrow such experience?”, President said, urging the Government to accelerate the efforts in 2013. Vice PM Erbol Orynbayev has been vested with powers to ensure the work is done. “Developing insurance is strategically important (…) We have witnessed a storm in Zhambyl oblast. Hundreds of houses have been damaged, a lot of people got hurt. I deeply sympathise with those hit by the disaster. The Government will not leave them abandoned in their plight (…) We are rendering aid”, he said.
