Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued an air pollution warning for residents of Almaty, Astana, and several other cities across different regions of the country.
“On April 25, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions for air pollution are expected in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Atyrau, Almaty, and Astana,” the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to short-term weather factors such as calm winds, light breeze, fog, and temperature inversion that contribute to the accumulation of harmful pollutants in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warmer air lies above cooler air, effectively trapping it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and disperses pollutants. But during an inversion, the colder air gets "locked" below the warmer layer, keeping emissions, dust, and smoke close to the ground — especially in cities.
