Tengrinews.kz - An earthquake was recorded near the Kazakhstan-China border on April 22.
According to the network of seismic stations operated by the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the tremor occurred at 6:30 A.M. Astana time.
"The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Kazakhstan, 508 kilometers northeast of Almaty," the statement said.
Authorities noted that the quake was not felt within Kazakhstan.
Preliminary data from the Kazakhstan National Data Center indicated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.6 and occurred on the territory of China. The event was assigned an energy class of 10.6.
Previously, Kazakhstan’s National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research issued a clarification regarding the forecasts made by a group of Chinese seismologists about the possibility of powerful earthquakes in China and neighboring regions.
