Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, honored the memory of renowned Sufi scholar Khoja Ahmed Yasawi during a visit to his mausoleum in Turkistan.
The informal meeting between the Kazakh President and the former Turkmen leader took place amid Berdimuhamedow’s visit to Kazakhstan, which began on April 21. Tokayev personally welcomed him at the Turkistan airport.
As part of their visit, the two leaders toured the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi - one of the most revered spiritual and cultural sites in the Turkic world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They paid their respects at the site and were briefed on ongoing restoration and research efforts within the complex.
The visit underscores the cultural and spiritual ties between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as a shared commitment to preserving common heritage.
The two statesmen also discussed current collaborative projects and reaffirmed their countries’ strategic partnership.
Earlier this year, Tokayev and Berdimuhamedow held a phone conversation where they reviewed cooperation in energy, transport, and cultural initiatives, and explored regional coordination ahead of upcoming multilateral events.
