On April 21–22, former President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Turkestan region.
“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev saw off the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, at Turkestan airport,” noted the Akorda press service.

As a reminder, in Turkestan, the President of Kazakhstan and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan held an informal meeting. As part of the visit, several sites in Turkestan were scheduled to be visited.
On the first day, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited one of the greatest spiritual and historical-cultural shrines of the Turkic world — the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
They also visited the Turkestan Visit Centre, where they learned about the ongoing process of turning the historical site into a museum. In addition, they toured the national cultural complex located within the Azret Sultan reserve.
What Tokayev and Berdimuhamedov talked about at their informal meeting in Turkestan
On April 22, President Tokayev held an informal meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. They discussed prospects for further strengthening the multifaceted strategic partnership across the full range of bilateral relations.
The two leaders emphasized the need to identify new areas of growth and take systemic measures to increase trade turnover to 1 billion USD in the coming years.
Special attention was given to expanding cooperation in the gas sector, particularly Kazakhstan’s participation in the development of the Galkynysh gas field in partnership with foreign companies.
