Tengrinews.kz – A sudden hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain struck Astana today, catching residents off guard. Footage of the extreme weather quickly spread across social media.
According to the national weather service, today’s forecast included partly cloudy skies with occasional rain and a chance of thunderstorms.
Winds were expected to shift from southeast to west, reaching speeds of 9–14 meters per second during the day. Temperatures ranged from 7–9°C at night to 21–23°C during the day.
What began as a light drizzle, especially on the city’s left bank, rapidly intensified into a full downpour with hail.
Looking ahead, meteorologists forecast more rain and thunderstorms for Wednesday, April 23, along with shifting winds and daytime temperatures holding steady around 21–23°C. However, on April 24, Astana is expected to see partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Winds will shift to the northeast, and temperatures will drop slightly to a daytime high of 15–17°C.
The storm came just a day after the city officially ended its heating season, following a stretch of stable warm weather.
