Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information, Aida Balayeva, has criticized anonymous Telegram channels, calling them “hotbeds of lies, manipulation, and provocation” that have a clear influence on public sentiment.
Speaking at a government briefing, the minister addressed questions from journalists about how the ministry plans to respond to the growing influence of such channels.
“It’s become impossible to ignore this issue. The ministry is now focused on identifying and blocking these sources. Our position is clear: we must increase accountability for the deliberate spread of fake and destabilizing information. Anonymity should not serve as a shield for provocateurs,” Balayeva said.
The minister emphasized the need for consistent rules both online and offline.
“There must be one set of rules for everyone—whether in real life or in digital space. We’re moving forward with this goal. I’ve already mentioned the positive example of the QirSabyn Telegram channel, which shows that regulation is possible. I believe the time has come to start negotiations with the Telegram administration,” she added.
