Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has issued a statement in connection with the earthquake in Turkey.
Diplomats reminded that on April 23, 2025, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the area near Istanbul, followed by ongoing aftershocks.
"As of now, no requests for assistance have been received from Kazakh citizens in Turkey by the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Istanbul. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation in coordination with Turkish authorities and Kazakhstan's diplomatic missions in Turkey," the MFA press service stated.
A total of 1,137 Kazakh citizens are registered with the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Istanbul.
"We urge our fellow citizens to remain calm and cautious and to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities," the ministry added.
Strong earthquake hits Turkey
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul today. The epicenter was located in the Marmara Sea, 26 kilometers south of the city of Silivri.
Later, two more tremors with magnitudes of 5.0 and 5.3 were recorded in the same area.

There have been no reports of casualties so far, but social media users are posting about structural damage. For example, in the Fatih district of Istanbul, an abandoned three-story building collapsed.

Meanwhile, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus urged citizens to be prepared for an earthquake that is already “at the doorstep.”
