Tengrinews.kz - Nearly 50 rifle barrels were discovered embedded in the foundation of an old house during flood prevention efforts in the North Kazakhstan region, local police reported.
The unexpected find was made by military personnel collecting sandbags to reinforce flood barriers in the village of Zarechnoye. While working in the area, they uncovered a buried foundation filled with rifle barrels, the regional police department said.
Officers stationed nearby broke apart the concrete and retrieved 46 rifle barrels and parts of hunting weapons.

“The recovered items were packed in bags, transported by boat to the mainland, and delivered to the police department in Petropavlovsk. An investigation is underway to determine who embedded the weapons in the foundation and when,” the statement said.
Earlier, a World War II-era machine gun was handed over to police in Kostanay. A local resident turned in the weapon as part of a nationwide amnesty for unregistered firearms and ammunition.
