Tengrinews.kz – A wave of cold air is set to grip Kazakhstan in the coming days, with night-time temperatures expected to drop below freezing in several parts of the country, meteorologists warn.
According to forecasts for April 24–26, much of the republic will remain under the influence of an anticyclonic ridge, bringing mostly dry weather. However, residents in northern and eastern regions should brace for overnight frosts ranging from -1°C to -3°C.
The western and northwestern parts of Kazakhstan will experience contrasting conditions due to an approaching cyclone and associated atmospheric fronts. Forecasters predict unstable weather in these areas, including rain, thunderstorms, and hail. Winds will intensify across the country, with dust storms expected in the southern and southwestern regions and fog in the mountainous areas of the southeast.
Temperature outlook:
- April 24 (night): Frosts of -1°C to -3°C in Kostanay, Akmola, and North Kazakhstan regions.
- April 24–25: Cooling temperatures in Pavlodar region.
- April 25: Frosts expected in Karaganda region.
- April 25–26 (night): Eastern Kazakhstan and Abai regions may see night-time lows between -1°C and -6°C.
Earlier, Kazhydromet had issued an advisory outlook for April, indicating that while springtime warming will continue, the month will be marked by fluctuating temperatures and frequent precipitation. The first half of April could see rain, snow, icy conditions in the north, and gusts of wind up to 20 m/s. By mid-month, mixed precipitation is forecast, tapering to mostly rain towards the end of the month. Daytime highs could reach up to +32°C, while night-time temperatures may still drop as low as -5°C.
