Tengrinews.kz - Six people impersonating police officers have been detained in Almaty and the Almaty Region, police officials reported.
According to the police department, the suspects were found in possession of fake service IDs, procedural document forms, elements of police uniforms, ammunition, seals, cold weapons, and license plates from various countries.
"The perpetrators, posing as law enforcement officers, seized cash and a local resident's car under the threat of criminal prosecution. The total damage amounted to over 12 million tenge. A criminal case has been initiated," the statement said.
Authorities noted that the investigation is ongoing and all suspects are being held in a temporary detention facility.
"We quickly responded to the victim's report, organized targeted operations, and successfully apprehended the suspects. The Almaty police will continue to take firm action against the illegal use of law enforcement symbols and hold those responsible accountable," said Murat Zhumabayev, head of the Almaty Police Drug Crime Counteraction Department.
