Tengrinews.kz – In the "Semey Ormany" territory, ogars — rare and brightly colored steppe waterfowl — were caught on a smartphone camera. Their unexpected appearance was a true discovery for wildlife enthusiasts.
In the Semey Ormany State Nature Reserve, rare birds — ruddy shelducks — were filmed using a mobile phone. These striking members of the duck family are easily recognized by their reddish-orange plumage and proud posture.
Ogars prefer to nest near bodies of water in open steppes. Their presence is a rare occurrence and an important indicator of a healthy ecosystem.

The ogar, or ruddy shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea), is a waterfowl from the duck family that resembles a small goose more than a typical duck. It has an upright posture, a long neck, a short beak, and slow, broad wingbeats.
The bird is fairly large: its body length ranges from 61 to 67 cm, its wingspan reaches 145 cm, and it weighs about 1–1.6 kilograms. Its plumage is a rich reddish-orange, with a lighter, almost ochre-colored head and neck. The wings have prominent white patches, especially noticeable in flight, and a green "mirror" along the edge of the flight feathers. The tail and flight feathers are dark with a greenish sheen. The eyes, beak, and legs are black.
