Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan is reforming its medical training system: the Ministry of Health is introducing a division of residency programs into adult and pediatric tracks.
According to the ministry, the changes are being implemented to improve the quality of medical care for children.
"From now on, residency programs in several of the most in-demand specialties will be divided into adult and pediatric profiles. This decision is driven by the need to reduce the shortage of narrowly specialized pediatric professionals. The new approach will ensure a more comprehensive and precise method for diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases in children, based on modern knowledge and clinical practice," the Ministry of Healthcare’s press service reported.
The key argument for the division, the ministry added, is the difference in anatomy, physiology, clinical manifestations of diseases, as well as diagnostic and treatment methods between adults and children.
"Under the updated training system, medical residents will be able to specialize in 27 new pediatric fields. These include pediatric cardiology, allergology and immunology, gastroenterology, pediatric maxillofacial surgery, adolescent dermatovenereology, pediatric plastic surgery, andrology and urology, among others," the ministry added.
