The Malaysian Airlines airplane crashed in Ukraine in the evening of July 17 claiming 298 lives.
President Nazarbayev in his letter to the Malaysian PM wrote that he “was deeply saddened by the news about the crash of the Malaysian Airlines plane on the territory of Ukraine”. The Head of the State on behalf of all Kazakhstanis expressed sincere condolences to Malaysians on their tragic loss.
There were no Kazakhstani citizens on that plane.
A group of AIDS researches on their way to a conference in Melbourne, Australia were killed in the crash. The MH17 flight was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and was hit in Donetsk, Ukraine.
AFP reported that Ukrainian emergency workers found the black box flight recorder that was believed to be missing earlier.
The United Nations called for a thorough international investigation of the tragic accident. The UN security council scheduled an emergency meeting in Ukraine.
