Tengrinews.kz – Meteorologist Mikhail Leus has warned of an approaching geomagnetic storm expected to last about three days, from April 22 to 24.
On his Telegram channel, the meteorologist reported that minor disturbances have once again begun in the Earth's magnetosphere, which reached the level of weak geomagnetic storms of G1 class in the second half of the night.
"They are not related to the large coronal hole that recently appeared on the Sun. The cause is short-term changes in the orientation of the magnetic field near the planet, so this geomagnetic storm is not expected to be long-lasting or intense," the expert noted.
According to him, the expected geomagnetic storms will begin on Tuesday, April 22, in the second half of the day, as the Earth enters a stream of solar wind that is faster and denser than usual.
"The geomagnetic field will become weakly disturbed again, and closer to the evening, with a probability of around 85 percent, geomagnetic storms ranging from G1 to G2 class (weak to moderate) are expected to begin. Currently, global forecasting centers estimate the duration of this geomagnetic storm period to be three days – from April 22 to 24," the meteorologist added.
