Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Almaty and other cities in various regions of the country.
"On April 21, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions for air pollution are expected in the cities of Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Aktobe, Almaty, and at night in Atyrau," the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air lies above cold air, essentially trapping it. Normally, the air near the ground is warmer and rises, carrying away pollutants. But during an inversion, the colder air remains stuck below, along with exhaust gases, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates near the surface, especially in cities.
Weather in Almaty
On April 21, the city will have partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Eastern wind at 3–8 meters per second. Air temperature will be 5–7°C at night and 16–18°C during the day.
