Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was briefed on the development of transport and logistics infrastructure during his working visit to the Mangystau region, citing the Akorda press service.
The Head of State visited the international Aktau Sea Port, a key logistics hub playing a crucial role in Kazakhstan’s transit potential.
Currently, the port operates as a modern multipurpose terminal that ensures year-round, 24/7 cargo handling along the East–West and North–South routes.
Its strategic location at the intersection of international transport corridors reinforces both national and regional logistics networks.
Tokayev was presented with the region’s development prospects, including plans to modernize port capacities and expand the country’s transit potential.
According to Transport Minister Marat Karabayev, 24 infrastructure projects worth 1.9 trillion tenge are being implemented in the region. In 2024, cargo volume along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route increased by 62 percent, reaching 4.5 million tonnes. A total of 358 container trains and 27,000 vehicles were transported, with exports making up 3.2 million tonnes. By 2028, the volume is expected to reach 10 million tonnes.

A container hub is currently under construction in Aktau, which will increase the port’s capacity from 140,000 to 240,000 TEUs.
“In accordance with the President’s instruction, construction of a new airport has begun in the Kenderli resort zone. It will have a capacity of 150 passengers per hour. Regular flights connecting Kenderli with Almaty and Astana are planned,” the Akorda press service stated.
Major road infrastructure projects, including the Center–West and Beineu–Saksaulsky routes, are also underway. These routes are expected to optimize logistics and reduce transport costs for transit and export cargo. The distance from Astana to Aktau will be reduced by 800 kilometers, and from Khorgos to Aktau by 900 kilometers.
“The Head of State instructed officials to speed up the construction of the airport in the Kenderli resort zone. He stressed that the Mangystau region has significant potential for Kazakhstan to become a transport and logistics hub of Eurasia. Achieving this goal is of strategic importance,” the press service added.
Tokayev arrived in the Mangystau region on April 18 to visit several key facilities and hold a meeting on the region’s socio-economic development.
Earlier, he visited a wholesale distribution center in Aktau and met with local athletes at the BS Arena sports complex.
