Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan will send a delegation to the United States for consultations on import tariffs, Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Zhanely Kushukova announced, without specifying the date of departure, according to KTK.
According to Kushukova, the government is currently working on the issue. It is worth noting that Washington’s new tariff policy affects about 5 percent of Kazakhstan’s exports. The tariffs, introduced under Trump, amount to 27 percent. As a result, Kazakhstan may lose over $90 million annually. However, Kazakhstan does not plan to introduce retaliatory tariffs. Here's why.
“Changing Kazakhstan’s import customs duties unilaterally is not possible because we are a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and we have shared obligations. A common customs tariff is applied across five countries. So, if any duties are to be changed on imported goods, it must be decided collectively by all five. At this point, such a question is not even being considered,” the Vice Minister of Trade and Integration explained.
