54 candidates for Kazakhstan Senate seats have been registered as of June 30, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Central Election Commission's press-service. The total number of contenders, both registered and unregistered, is currently 86. 15 candidates are nominated by Maslikhats (regional local parliaments), while 71 politicians have used their right for self-nomination. Candidates include 4 women, CEC noted. Nine of 86 candidates are former senators who decided to stand in elections for the next term. 42 of nominated candidates are members of Nur Otan National Democratic Party. Ak Zhol, Auyl, Rukhaniyat and Kazakhstan Patriots Party nominated one candidate each. 16 people did not state their party membership, CEC said. Another 24 people are not members of any party. Nomination of candidates will contninue until July 19. Registration of candidates is made by election commissions of the oblasts, Astana and Almaty until July 29.
