Bolatbek Kuandykov, Akim (Governor) of Kyzylorda oblast presented two-time weightlifting Olympic champion Ilya Ilyin with a 75 million tenge certificate (about $507,000). The Akim of the region presented a Renault Crossover car keys to Kazakhstan’s boxer Marina Volnova who won bronze at the Olympics. “In spite of the fact that Marina competes for Astana city team at present, we still consider her our resident and we are proud of her success,” Kuandykov said. Akim also awarded other athletes from Kyzylorda, who participated in the Olympics but won no medals. Weight-lifter Almas Uteshev and free-style wrestler Daulet Niyazbekov got 1 million tenge certificates ($6,757) each. Weight-lifter Aleksandr Zaychikov and track-and-field athlete Viktor Leptikov got 300,000 tenge certificates ($2027) each.
