Kazakhstan cycling team Astana has 8 riders left in French super cycling marathon Tour de France after the third stage, Vesti.kz reports. It started with four racers from Kazakhstan - Assan Bazayev, Andrey Kashechkin, Alexey Lutsenko and Dmitriy Muravyev - but Andrey Kashechkin withdrew from the third stage. The team's foreign riders are Dane Jakob Fuglsang, Slovene Janez Brajkovic, Swede Fredrik Kessiakoff, Italians Enrico Gasparotto and Francesco Gavazzi. Fuglsang and Brajkovic are the captains of Astana Pro Team at Tour de France-2013. Astana Pro Team has no stage victories yet but its racers have shown noticeable results. The first stage was not very successful for Astana Pro Team, but at least none of its members withdrew as a result of the multiple massed fall that marred the stage. After that things started to improve for the team. Its Italian racer Francesco Gavazzi came 7th at the second stage of the race. However he was the only Astana racer among the top 40 riders. Stage three was both a success and a disappointment for the team. Astana Pro Team sprinter Francesco Gavazzi finished the third stage in the 7th place again, but this time in Calvi. "Two days in the top ten is a good sign in the first week is a good sign for the next three weeks," Gavazzi said after the third stage. But his teammate Andrey Kashechkin withdrew from the stage after a mere hour of racing. A gastrointestinal distress was the cause of the pull out. "To lose Kashechkin before the team time trial in Nice is an really unfortunate surprise for us. We can race with eight tomorrow in Nice, but against the specialist teams in this discipline every rider is important, and it's a big disappointment not to have a full roster at the start," said Astana Pro Team Director Sportif Dmitriy Sedoun. This year's annual multi-stage bicycle race Tour de France started on June 29 in Porto-Vecchio city, Corsica Island and will finish on July 21 in Paris. The 100th Tour de France consists of 21 stages with the total distance of 3,404 kilometers.
