Plans are there to have Kazakh language shifted to the Latin alphabet by 2025, a Tengrinews.kz journalist reports, citing President Nazarbayev as saying January 18 when meeting the diplomatic corps. “I have set the task of having the language shifting to the Latin alphabet by 2025. This decision is driven by the necessity to develop the language”, President said, adding that the Latin alphabet makes the language more usable when using the Internet, electronic equipment and gadgets. “I want to reiterate once again that one shouldn’t see any political preferences behind this decision. We pursue multivector ties with all other nations of the world”, Head of State said. Tengrinews.kz reported earlier that when speaking at a solemn meeting to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence December 14, President Nursultan Nazarbayev tasked the Government to start prep works to transit to the Latin alphabet by 2025.
