Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated Kazakhstan citizens on the Constitution Day, Akorda press service reports. “Dear compatriots! From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you on the Constitution Day. On this day 19 years ago our people adopted the Basic Law at the national referendum, which proclaimed Kazakhstan secular, legal and unitary state,” the message reads.
"The unity of the people, public and spiritual concord, and political stability as the fundamental principles of the constitutional system are the highest values of our society," the President said, "The Constitution provides the ground for high economic growth and increase in the citizens' welfare on the path towards sustainable development of our state and society".
"Our Constitution is a solid basis for implementation of historical aims and objectives of the Strategy-2050 to bring Kazakhstan into the club of top 30 most developed countries of the world," the President said.
"Next year, Kazakhstan will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Constitution adopted by the national referendum as well as the 20th anniversary of the People's Assembly, the state institution dedicated to promotion and harmonization of interethnic relations in Kazakhstan. “These two milestone events constitute a single link in our chronicles. I sincerely wish all citizens of Kazakhstan peace and kindness, success and prosperity!” Nursultan Nazarbayev concluded.
Open air celebrations and festivities are taking place all over the country.
Kazakhstan's Constitution was adopted by the national referendum 19 years ago on August 30, 1995. More than eight million people took part in the national referendum.
It declared Kazakhstan a country with presidential government and August 30 was declared the Constitution Day of Kazakhstan.
The Constitution Day is a national holiday. In line with the Labor Code, this day is a day off. According to the law On holidays in Kazakhstan, if the holiday day is a weekend day, the workday following the holiday day shall be considered the day off. Therefore, this year Kazakhstanis have days off on August 30, 31 and September 1.
