Foreign leaders congratulated Kazakhstan on the Independence Day, Tengrinews.kz reports from the official meeting timed to еру 20th anniversary of independence. Senate speaker Kairat Mami read the greetings to Nursultan Nazarbayev and the audience in the Independence Palace. The greeting of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was the first one to be read. “I am glad to congratulate Kazakhstan government and people on the 20th anniversary of your country’s independence. The term ‘kazakh’ originates from an ancient Turkic word that means ‘independent' or 'free-spirited’. It conveys the meaning and the value very accurately. Since obtaining the independence, the people of Kazakhstan showed their aptness to making Kazakhstan the leading player in the region in many areas,” Ban Ki-moon wrote. “In the past years Kazakhstan achieved impressive results in economic development and in ensuring prosperity of its people. Stability, public accord and farsighted foreign policies have became a reliable basis for advancement of the country's international standing. Kazakhstan's role in promotion of integration process is most notable,” the greeting of Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev stated. Senate speaker also read out congratulations of the Presidents of China, France, Kings of Spain, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, President of Germany, the Pope Benedict XVI, Presidents of Uzbekistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Croatia, Lebanon, Ireland, Palestine, Lithuania, Turkmenistan, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Iraq, Italy, Poland, Georgia, Cuba and Switzerland.
