Yerlan Aryn, Akim (Governor) of Pavlodar oblast, asked deputy prime-minister to speed up construction of Cancer Detection Center in Pavlodar, Tengrinews.kz reports. Yerlan Aryn requested it when Kairat Kelimbetov, deputy prime-minister of Kazakhstan visited Pavlodar oblast. “The issue of construction of such premises has been under discussion for several years. The Ministry of Health plans to allocate funds from the state budget and to start the construction in 2013. However, we рфму realized that it is necessary to start the construction this year because the cancer rate has increased in the area,” Aryn said. “The existing Cancer Center is work flat out. Besides it is located in a reconstructed dormitory building that was built more than 50 years ago. Moreover, many of the Center's departments are located in other reconstructed premises in different parts of the city,” the Akim said. According to the regional health department's data Pavlodar oblast is in the second place in Kazakhstan by cancer rate. About ten thousand people who have cancer are registered with the oblast's hospitals. More than 2000 people newly diagnosed with cancer are being registered every year.
