Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued an air pollution warning for residents of Almaty and other cities in various regions of the country.
“On April 17, 2025, unfavorable weather conditions for air pollution are expected in the cities of Uralsk, Aktobe, and Almaty,” the statement reads.
Unfavorable weather conditions refer to a combination of short-term meteorological factors (such as calm winds, light breeze, fog, or temperature inversion) that contribute to the buildup of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air sits above cooler air, effectively trapping it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises, carrying pollutants away. But during an inversion, the cold air stays trapped at the surface, along with car emissions, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution builds up near the ground—especially in cities.
