French singer Patricia Kaas visited Almaty on May 4 as a part of her Kaas Sings Piaf tour, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the city’s Department of Culture.
Kaas chante Piaf or Kaas sings Piaf is a tribute to French national diva and icon Edith Piaf. Kaas has included 21 songs from Piaf’s repertoire in her live show.
Kaas said that although her life was very different from the tragedy of Edith Piaf, she related a lot to icon’s songs.
“I love Piaf’s songs so much, they are magical and loved by many all around the world. As a tribute to the 50th anniversary of her death, I wanted to honor the legacy of this wonderful singer by creating a show with her songs and recording an album with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Fabrice Brovelli and Christophe Caurret,” Kaas said.
Kaas performed the tribute show in Moscow, Zurich, Geneva, Berlin, London and New York. In Almaty, the French chanteuse sang famous Padam-Padam, Je T’ai Dans La Peau and a even a number of songs in Russian.
It was her second recent visit to Kazakhstan. In 2013, she performed in Astana as a part of the Year of France in Kazakhstan. But her first visit was 22 years ago. "I still keep the souvenirs from that first visit," she said.
While in Almaty Kaas had an idea of recording a song together with a Kazakh singer Rasul Zharmagambetov. She liked him for his voice and offered her director to consider a joint project. In the end they decided that a well-known Kazakh poet Karina Sarsenova will write the lyrics for their song. Kaas is known for singing together with many singers famous in the post-Soviet space - Aleksandr Buinov, Valeria, Soso Pavliashvili, Alsu and Uma2rmaH band are among them.
