Timur Kulibayev, Kazakhstan Boxing Federation president, has set a task for the national boxing team to win the London Olympic Games that will be held on July 27 – August 12, 2012, Tengrinews.kz reports. The head of Federation hopes that Kazakhstan team will fight in all ten weight leagues in the Olympic Games. So far Kazakhstan boxers have gained only six Olympic spots. “The Olympic qualification tournament will be held in Astana in the nearest future. We hope that our sportsmen will win four more Olympic spots in four weight leagues where we don’t have the spots yet and the men’s team will compete in full in the Olympic Games. Our ultimate goal is to win the Olympic Games,” Kulibayev said at a meeting dedicated to 2011 results of the Boxing Federation. Kulibayev praised the boxers for their successful performance in Baku World Championship. Kazakhstan team won four medals (two silver and two bronze ones) in the Championship. The team became second in overall standings of the tournament after Ukraine. Federation’s president said that he was counting not only on the men’s team, but on the women’s as well. The women’s boxing team will try to gain Olympic spots in Chinese World Championship in May. Women’s matches are held in three weight leagues only. Boxers will fight for medals on August 9, 11 and 12 in the London Olympic Games.
