Tengrinews.kz - A special court in the Akmola region convicted a transnational criminal group that set up a drug lab in a private house on the outskirts of the city of Yereymentau, according to the regional prosecutor's office.

The criminal group, made up of Ukrainian and Moldovan nationals, aimed to produce synthetic drugs in large quantities for subsequent sale in Astana. When they were apprehended at the crime scene, authorities found 10 kilograms of mephedrone and over 17 kilograms of precursors, along with specialized equipment for producing synthetic drugs.

"The drugs were produced under strict secrecy. The house was equipped with a surveillance system that transmitted data in real time to the organizer, and a garage was rented for storing raw materials and finished products," the prosecutor's office reported.

In court, the prosecutor fully established the defendants' guilt. The organizer was sentenced to 23 years in prison, while the accomplices received 22-year sentences, with confiscation of property. The verdict has entered into legal force.

Earlier, a foreign national was detained at Almaty airport after police discovered a suspicious parcel containing illegal substances.
