Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstanis can now cross the border with China on foot via the 'Bakty" checkpoint, according to the Abai region's akimat.

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstanis can now cross the border with China on foot via the 'Bakty" checkpoint, according to the Abai region's akimat.

The checkpoint was officially inaugurated with the participation of officials from the Abai region and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Until the modernization of the Bakty checkpoint terminals is complete, tourists will be able to cross the border following the established procedure under current regulations, the akimat stated.

"Passengers are allowed to transport up to 25 kilograms of cargo once a month. It is important to note that border crossing is only permitted using vehicles with special authorization for international passenger transport," the press service noted.

In 2023, a visa-free regime agreement between Kazakhstan and China came into effect.
