Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the replacement of the Russian national flag with the Ukrainian flag on an LED screen in Astana.
According to the ministry, all possible scenarios are being considered, including technical malfunctions and potential external interference with the equipment of "Keruen Media."
"A criminal case has been opened. The circumstances of the incident are being clarified. Those responsible for unlawful actions will be held accountable," the statement said.
The incident was also addressed by the State Technical Service of the National Security Committee:
"Preliminary data indicates that the attack was carried out using foreign IP addresses and proxy servers. A criminal case has been initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The State Technical Service is conducting a series of technical measures to identify the source and mechanism of the breach."
The incident occurred following the display of Russian tricolors across Astana to mark the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan. The flags were shown on electronic billboards, among other locations. However, in the evening, eyewitnesses shared footage online showing the Ukrainian flag replacing the Russian one on an LED screen near the Astana Opera.
"Keruen Media" attributed the incident to technical malfunctions, while reports of a hacker attack circulated online.
