Poland's 'Ida' wins best foreign language film Oscar

 Poland's "Ida," about a young nun who discovers a dark family secret dating back to the years of the Nazi occupation, won the best foreign language movie Oscar on Sunday, AFP reports.

 Poland's "Ida," about a young nun who discovers a dark family secret dating back to the years of the Nazi occupation, won the best foreign language movie Oscar on Sunday, AFP reports.

The Polish film beat "Leviathan" (Russia), "Tangerines" (Estonia), "Timbuktu" (Mauritania) and "Wild Tales " (Argentina) in the category, the fourth announced during the 87th Oscars show.

"We made a film about ... the need for silence and withdrawal from the world and contemplation, and here we are. At the epicenter of noise and world attention. Fantastic, you know," said director Pawel Pawlikowski.

"Life is full of surprises," added the filmmaker, who had to be played off stage twice with music that nudges winners to wrap up acceptance speeches.
