Tengrinews.kz - A direct train service between Balkhash and Almaty will begin operating on March 1.
Previously, passengers traveling to Almaty needed to transfer at Saryshagan Station.
The route was made possible after the construction of a second track on the Balkhash–Moyynty section, which increased the railway’s capacity, the Karaganda regional akimat (local administration) reported.
Train schedule:
- Balkhash – Almaty: Departs on even-numbered days at 07:52 a.m., arriving at Almaty-2 at 12:58 a.m.
- Almaty – Balkhash: Departs on odd-numbered days at 12:10 a.m., arriving in Balkhash at 3:03 p.m.
The journey will take approximately 17 hours.
Kazakhstanis are also eager for a fast train connection between Astana and Borovoe. Whether such a train will be launched anytime soon was clarified by JSC "Passenger Transportation."
