Public holidays in May 2025
Kazakhstan celebrates three major national holidays in May:
- May 1 (Thursday) – Kazakhstan's People Solidarity Holiday
- May 7 (Wednesday) – Defenders' Day
- May 9 (Friday) – Victory Day
Each of these days is an official public holiday, so in addition to regular weekends, several extra days off will be added.
How Kazakhstani citizens will rest on May 1, 2025
For a five-day workweek:
- May 1 (Thursday) – day off;
- May 2 (Friday) – working day;
- May 3 and 4 (Saturday and Sunday) – days off.
For a six-day workweek:
- May 1 – day off;
- May 2 and 3 – working days;
- May 4 – day off.
How Kazakhstani citizens will rest on May 7 and 9, 2025
In the second week of May, Kazakhstani citizens will enjoy two holidays.
For a five-day workweek:
- May 7 (Wednesday) – day off;
- May 9 (Friday) – day off;
- May 10 and 11 (Saturday and Sunday) – days off.
For a six-day workweek:
- May 7 – day off;
- May 9 – day off;
- May 10 (Saturday) – working day;
- May 11 (Sunday) – day off.
Earlier, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said there are no plans to move days off, including from May 11 to May 8, even though the gap between the holidays makes the break feel “split up.”

How many days off will Kazakhstanis have in May 2025?
With a five-day workweek, there will be 12 days off in May, including public holidays. Citizens will work for 19 days that month.
With a six-day workweek, there will be 8 days off, and 23 working days.
Professional holidays in May
May is also rich in professional observances, which, although not official days off, are celebrated in various sectors:
- May 17 – Day of Communication Workers;
- May 20 – Day of Metrology Workers;
- May 21 – Day of Cultural and Art Workers;
- Last Sunday of May (May 25) – Day of Chemical Industry Workers.
By the way, the Ministry of Ecology has prepared a draft order to amend the list of national observances in Kazakhstan. According to the document, it is planned to add Kazakh Dog Breeds Day on September 3. More details are available in the full article.
