Kazakhstan's professional boxer Beibut Shumenov has retained his super WBA light heavyweight title in the fight against previously unbeaten Tamas Kovacs from Slovakia, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. He may not be as famous as his fellow-countrymen Genady 'GGG' Golovkin, but Shumenov has started quickly attracting attention. Shumenov, 30 (14-1WP, 9 KO) smashed the unbeaten Kovacs (23-1WP, 14 KO). The Kazakh boxer repeatedly knocked downed the Slovakian in the first, second, and third rounds. The referee Rafael Ramos stepped in to announce a TKO at 2:55 of round three, Badlefthook.com observed. Shumekov says he is the best light heavyweight boxer in the world. After such an impressive bout there are few who would doubt the boxer who had not been in the ring for a year and half before the bout. Bernard Hopkins, 48, is among the few who can contest Shumenov. In case the Hopkins-Shumenov fight takes place, the IBF and WBA belts will be unified. And that is exactly what Shumenov hopes for if he is strong enough to defeat Hopkins.
