Tengrinews.kz – The Israeli army has stormed a peacekeepers' base in Lebanon, destroying the main gate with a tank and injuring 15 soldiers. The Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan has commented on the situation of Kazakh peacekeepers.

The ministry stated that currently, Kazakh peacekeepers, represented by three staff officers, continue to operate normally. The escalation of the situation is occurring at a distance from their places of duty.

"In the event of an escalation, the decision regarding the evacuation of Kazakh servicemen will be made in collaboration with the UN Secretariat and the mission leadership. The Ministry of Defense is in constant contact with them," emphasized the official representative of the ministry, Ruslan Zhangulin.

It was previously reported that at least 15 people were injured during the Israeli army's incursion into the UN peacekeepers' base in Lebanon. This occurred after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to "immediately remove" peacekeepers "from harm's way.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Kazakhstan would send its peacekeepers to the Middle East and Africa, with parliamentary approval.

Kazakhstan has sent up to 430 servicemen to participate in the following UN missions:

  • United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF, Syria-Israel)
  • United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO, Palestine-Israel)
  • United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS, South Sudan)
  • United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA, Sudan)

Subsequently, Kazakhstan's Minister of Defense, Ruslan Jaqsylyqov, stated that Kazakh peacekeepers would carry out their mission under the flag of Kazakhstan. Their tasks will include patrolling and guard duties. The defense minister assured that our peacekeepers are not going to war.
