Mobile phones will not be working in the Almaty underground, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Press Service of the Almaty Underground Office. The decision was taken by the law enforcement bodies following terror acts in Minsk (Belarus) and Moscow undergrounds arranged and coordinated through mobile phones. According to the Press Service, respective bodies of Kazakhstan have studied safety drawbacks of other countries and recommended not to make mobile phone communications available in the underground. Meanwhile some mobile carriers have already come up with technical solutions to be the first to offer communications possibilities in the underground. Tengrinews.kz reported earlier that railing of the first stretch of the Almaty underground had been completed early June. Afterwards, carriage rolling stock had been tested in between four stations – Raimbek, Zhibek Zholy, Almaly and Abai. The first stretch is to be inaugurated in December before celebrating the 20 anniversary of the nation’s independence. “I believe the launch of the first stretch could be a good present for people for the Independence Day”, President had said when visiting Raimbek station still under construction. The first 8.56-km-long line comprises 7 stations.
