Labor Inspection has named safety violations as the cause of the accident at Korkem construction site, Tengrinews reports.
The inspection was conducted because the prosecutor’s office in Astana initiated a criminal case in regards to the accident at the construction site.
“Incorrect fixing of the scaffolding was the cause of the accident,” Kairat Iskakov of the Labor Inspection said in his statement on May 5.
On April 25 at 08:57 a.m., a section of the sites' metal scaffoldings and several metal sheets broke-down and fell trapping several workers under the debris. 18 people were injured. 11 people were hospitalized, but 7 of them were discharged for outpatient treatment the same day.
4 workers of Ellips Ko LLP are still in the hospital.
The project developer Aibyn Kurulys promised financial assistance to the victims. A representative of Aibyn Kurulys assured that the scaffoldings were new and had a valid quality certificate.
“Major safety violations were detected during the investigation of the construction site. The inspector halted the works at the construction site and issued instructions to eliminate all the violations,” Iskakov added.
The investigation was completed and the case was transferred to the Economic Court of Astana.
