First Gymkhana Championship to be held in Kazakhstan

The first Gymkhana Championship will be held in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the event’s organizer Tatyana Luboshnikova. The first stage of the rally is scheduled for the beginning of July in Almaty at the territory of Boralday airport. Gymkhana is a type of motorsport very popular in Japan, USA and Great Britain. The drivers have to make it from the start to the finish with time and maximum speed. During the race sportsmen make 180 and 360 degree turns, pass parking boxes, make figure eight curves and other complex elements, including drifting. Many Internet users found out about this sport thanks to videos of a famous racer Ken Block. According to the organizer of the event, gymkhana is an absolutely new sport for Kazakhstan and it may be attended by owners of any kind of cars: front-drive, back-drive and full-drive. Luboshnikova noted that preparation for the championship and designing of the race track are already underway and special attention is being given to safety of drivers and spectators. “The tracks are being designed with the use of mathematical calculations. We will then start building them,” Tatyana Luboshnikova said. Gymkhana tournament will be held in two stages this summer. Other details are kept secret by the organizers. By Daniyar Bozov
