Tengrinews.kz - On October 17, Almaty will conduct an emergency drill to test the city's earthquake alert system, according to the Department of Emergency Situations (DES).
The drill, scheduled for 10:00 AM, will include the activation of sirens, takeover of TV and radio channels, and notifications through mobile applications, as reported by the DES.
"The sound signal 'Attention everyone!' is a warning designed to attract the public’s attention before transmitting emergency messages in the event of a threat or disaster. Upon hearing the signal, residents should turn on their TVs and radios, and check online resources and mobile apps for instructions on further actions," the statement read.
Previously, it was announced that the Mass Alert system would be tested in Almaty on October 17. Users of mobile devices will receive a test notification labeled as "National Alert", while some Android users will see it marked as "Presidential Alert".
