Kazakhstani writer Ilya Odegov was shortlisted for the International literary competition Russian Award in the Flash Fiction category, Tengrinews reports. Odegov’s Timur and his summer short story is about growing up and the struggle to comprehend the changes taking place during adolescence. The protagonist Timur who is 12 y.o. experiences his first moments of sexual awakening during his summer at his grandmother’s cottage house. Odegov skillfully portrays the essence and brevity of growing up in his short story. The winner will be announced at the 9th annual ceremony in Moscow on April 22. The Russian Award is given in three categories: Extended Prose, Flash Fiction and Poetry. The literary award was initiated in 2005 to promote the development of Russian language and literature as a part of the world literary heritage. The jury of the competition consists of notable Russian writers and critics. There have been 70 winning writers and poets from 26 countries so far.
