Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev made a significant contribution into creation of the Customs Union, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Russian Prime-Minister as saying during the ‘phone-in’ of the Talks with Vladimir Putin TV show. According to Putin, it is very important that Kazakhstan President and his Belarus counterpart Aleksander Lukashenko supported the idea of creation of the common economic space. Russian PM emphasized that Nazarbayev was the one who acted as the “main drive” of the Customs Union. “This is a complicated process, negotiation take a compromise, it is very important that Lukashenko and Nazarbayev, who is the main drive and locomotive of all these processes, support and implement this idea,” Putin said. “Thanks to the governments of these countries and the position of Russia and Russian president Dmitriy Medvedev we are moving in this direction and I hope we will be moving further.” Putin also said that Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan might adopt a common currency in future. “We have not reached such a level of integration (like the European Union), but we are discussing this possibility and moving towards creation of the Eurasian Union after the launch of the Common Economic Space. I am sure we will get there in the course of our negotiations and after reaching the agreement. I hope we will also get to both common currency and coordination of macroeconomic policy,” Putin said.
