A garbage can that looks like a cigarette stub has won the contest for the best design of garbage cans for Astana called IzoUrna, the contest’s organizer Aslanbek Zhakupov told Tengrinews.kz. The competition started on August 27 and completed on October 7. It was supported by Soros-Kazakhstan Fund. 300 different designs were submitted for the contest: from children’s paintings to 3D-models. 24 of them were selected and suggested for online-voting. The voting gave the second place to the Stop-Sign Can and Yellow Smiley with three sections won the third place. According to Zhakupov, three best designs were submitted to Astana administration that will decide which of them to use. He also added that technically complicated option were suggested in the contest as well, e.g. a garbage that says “Thank You” when one throws garbage in it, a can with lights, an eco-can in the form of a leaf, a Baiterek-shaped can and many others. Prizes of the contest included Lenovo laptop (for the 1st place), Samsumg mobile phone (2nd place) and Sony MP3-player (3rd place).
