Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has analyzed the flood risks across all regions of Kazakhstan.
To assess the situation, experts considered soil moisture levels from autumn, precipitation during the cold season, soil freezing depth, ice crust formation, and river ice conditions.
Meteorologists noted that in the event of rising temperatures and heavy rainfall in March, mountain rivers could experience high meltwater floods.
Regions with a high risk of flooding:
- East Kazakhstan
- Abai
- Karaganda
- Ulytau
- Akmola
- North Kazakhstan
- Kostanay
- Aktobe
Regions with a moderate risk:
- Almaty
- Zhetysu
- Zhambyl
- West Kazakhstan
- Atyrau
Regions with a low risk:
- Pavlodar
- Turkestan
- Mangystau
- Kyzylorda
Last spring, severe flooding hit several regions of Kazakhstan, with the Aktobe, Atyrau, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Kostanay, and Akmola regions suffering the most. In response, the government canceled entertainment and mass events to allocate funds for recovery efforts.
Earlier, 28 evacuation points for 2,000 people were announced to be set up in case of floods in the West Kazakhstan region.
