Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan responded to taxi companies' concerns about possible negative consequences of the tax reform.
The ministry emphasized that the updated draft Tax Code, presented to the Mazhilis on February 20, 2025, includes preferential conditions for taxi drivers.
"They will pay a unified 4% tax, which covers only pension contributions, social deductions, and health insurance. This system can be used without registering as an individual entrepreneur. Therefore, the tax burden on taxi drivers will not increase," the statement explained.
Taxi drivers will also be able to work directly with online platform operators (such as Yandex and others) without intermediaries from taxi companies.
The Ministry of Economy cited data from the State Revenue Committee: as of 2024, about 15,000 taxpayers engaged in transportation use a simplified declaration, and only 924 of them exceed the 15-million tenge threshold.
"This means that lowering the VAT threshold will affect only 6% of them. These are large taxi companies that should be paying VAT," the statement said.
Additionally, online platform operators are also subject to VAT.
"It should be noted that taxi service prices are formed based on market relations, depending on competition, demand, and supply," the ministry clarified.
