Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Almaty complained to Akim (governor) Erbolat Dossaev about the lack of women in power.
During a meeting with residents of the city's Bostandyk District, the woman stated that over the past two years, she had submitted more than 200 requests to the akimat (local government administration) and other government agencies regarding the construction of a housing development. However, she claimed that "the akimat and all state bodies do not hear" the residents.
"I would also like to raise the issue of women's representation in decision-making. Just look— all the akimat representatives are men. There are no women. Maybe that affects the efficiency of the work," the Almaty resident said.
Akim Erbolat Dossaev responded by saying that Almaty is a unique city in this regard.
"In Almaty, I believe we are the most unique. I have two district akims who are women. My department heads are women. My deputy (Asem Nusupova – ed.) is a woman. I would like to increase their number even more. So, I believe that we don't have perfect gender equality yet. But women do hold leading positions in the akimat. Honestly, I trust them more than men because they are reliable," Dossaev stated.
Earlier, Erbolat Dossaev, answering questions from residents of the Medeu District, spoke about plans to improve air quality in Almaty.
