According to the opinion poll, the majority of Kazakhstan citizens consider national interests a priority in relations with China, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Institute of Political Solutions (IPS). The poll covered 2,298 people in 16 largest cities of Kazakhstan in April. 44.8 percent of respondents say that Kazakhstan’s national interests has to be a priority in the relations with China, answering the question “What do you think of further enhancement of political-economic relations between Kazakhstan and China?” Non-dominant majority of the citizens support cooperation with China, but think that long-term risks posed by China have to be considered along with Kazakhstan’s interests. Only 11.5 percent of respondents see China as Kazakhstan’s strategic partner, choosing the "relations with China have to be a priority” option. The majority of the polled Kazakhstan citizens (56.3 percent) support cooperation with China. Another 27.7 percent of the citizens think that Kazakhstan needs to minimize relations with China, as “China poses a threat for our country”. The remaining 16 percent found it difficult to commit to any of the answers.
