Lego
Kazakhstan is making Lego part of its school curriculum, Tengrinews reports. Students of Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Atyrau have already constructed several robots. There are Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools for talented children in six cities of Kazakhstan and each has Lego classes. Marwin Company, the official distributor of Lego Education in Kazakhstan, has established a department for education solutions and is a partner of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools. According to teachers, Lego Mindstorms Nxt sets are used to teach robotics classes. The Lego Mindstorms kits contain software and hardware to create small, customizable and programmable robots. They include a programmable brick computer that controls the system, a set of modular sensors and motors, and Lego parts from the Technics line to create the mechanical systems. Сhildren use the sets to make computer programmed automated devices. For example, Nurbek Zulbukhar, a 7th grade student (age 13-14) of Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Atyrau, has built up a robot he calls "linear crawler" and programmed it. The crawler moves like a sleuth and is able to recognize colors using its sensors. Abai-Loran Almukhammetov, Nurbek's classmate, has made a robot that can drive around different obstructions using its touch and speed sensors. According to their computer science teacher Kazbek Azerbayev, younger students construct simpler things from Lego and it is good for their motor skills and imagination. While older children can use the sets even to construct a car gear shit. Earlier, The Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan said that it was planning to consider introducing Lego into the eduction system. Lego Education has been working with teachers and educational specialists to provide solutions and resources to bring subjects to life and make learning fun for over 30 years.
