Some residents of Kamenskoye upland are still without the electricity because of the storm that hit Almaty on June 27, Tengrinews.kz reports. According to Alatau Zharyk electric power company, 71 substations failed in Medeu region of Almaaty. 67 of them are already fixed. The work of four substations cannot be restored because of the fallen trees. Access to substations is blocked and the repair works will start only on June 30. Meanwhile, Almaty Emergency Situations Department said that power supply had been fully resumed in two regions of the city where 24 substations were damaged. The storm hit Almaty on June 27. Four people were injured and hundreds of trees fell after hail, rain and strong wind. 200 rescuers are eliminating consequences of the storm. As per the first deputy of Almaty Akim (Mayor) Maulen Mukashev, repair of damaged facilities will require around 500 million tenge ($3.5 million). KazHydroMet weather service, however, does not consider Almaty storm a hazardous disaster. Hail, heavy rain of 15-29 mps are not considered hazardous disasters and in such cases the weather service normally does not give any warnings, they say. This is the second heavy storm in Almaty this year. May 17 rain, hail and strong wind claimed life of one man, several people were injured.
