The Symphony Orchestra of Astana Opera theater was touring Italy from July 21 to August 4, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the theater press-service. According to the theater musical director Abzal Mukhitdinov, Kazakhstan artists presented two premieres of Mena opera by the Sicilian composer Plinio Maggi, three performances of The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini and gave a large gala concert called Music between East and West: from Steppe to Mediterranean in Sicilian cities of Catania, Noto and Gela in the frameworks of the Kazakh-Italian project called Festa dell Opera Mediterranea. “The joint work started on July 22 and orchestra was ready to perform the whole music material after the third rehearsal. The Italian public was amazed at Kazakhstan's young but very confident and experienced musicians. Mena opera was directed by the president of the Camerata Polifonica Siciliana Fund Giovanni Ferrauto. Maitre Francesco Falci, pianist Alberto Ferro, vocalists and choir participated in the gala concert representing the music community of Gela city," Abzal Mukhitdinov said. According to the music director, Italians were impressed with the high professional level of Kazakhstan's musicians, and the orchestra’s ability to understand and respond to the director's every move and by flexibility of their accompaniment to singers. After the performances the spectators came up to the musicians to take photos and share their impressions. "When Italian people learned from the posters that an orchestra from Kazakhstan was playing Italian music, they took it with a thrill and excitement. By the time the tour was over everyone - from custom officers to children - knew that the Astana State Opera Symphony Orchestra performed in Italy," Mukhitdinov said. The symphony orchestra's artists brought an honorary diploma and a DVD of Sicilian opera premiere.
